Characteristics of the productivity of sheep from the Karnobat fine-wool breed
Margarit Iliev
Abstract: The study was carried out with ewes born in period from 1999 to 2005 with the aim to characterise the productivity of the sheep from the Karnobat fine-wool breed. The basic productive traits (live weight, wool productivity, staple length up to 4.5 years of age, wool yield and clean wool at 1.5 and 2.5 years of age) were recorded for 364 animals. It was found that ewes from the Karnobat fine-wool breed were with good wool productivity, staple length and high wool yield. The year of birth had a considerable influence on the traits live weight, wool productivity, staple length, wool yield and clean wool of ewes. More favourable for most of the basic selection traits were the years 2003, 2004 and 2005. Wool yield increased at 2.5 years, wool productivity - up to 3.5 years, live weight - up to 4.5 years. Staple length remained almost unchanged. The animals from the breeding lines displayed good productivity for the basic selection traits.
