Panomir Tzenov, Jolanda Vasileva, Dimitar Grekov
Abstract: A testing of 8 Indian silkworm, Bombyx mori L. hybrids, and the Bulgarian silkworm hybrid Super 1 x Hesa 2, used as a control has been conducted at the Scientific Center on Sericulture, Vratsa, Bulgaria. It was detected that the Indian silkworm hybrids performed lower main biological characters pupation rate, fresh cocoon weight, silk shell weight and percentage values, compared with the local silkworm hybrid Super 1 x Hesa 2. In the Bulgarian hybrid the fresh cocoon weight was 2293 mg, silk shell weight was 526 mg and the silk shell ratio was 22.94%, while the mean characters values of the all Indian hybrid were 1739 mg, 375 mg and 21.56% respectively. It may be concluded that the Bulgarian silkworm hybrid Super 1 x Hesa 2 manifests higher main biological characters values than the Indian silkworm hybrids, tested.
