OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERSPECIFIC HYBRIDIZATION OF SALMONIDS BY METHODS OF ASSISTED REPRODUCTION
V. Atanasov
Abstract: Opportunities for interspecific hybridization in salmonids were discussed. Here we review the literature on interspecific interactions of brown trout with brook trout and Atlantic salmon to assess the potential effects of introduced brook trout on native European salmonids. We present the literature and results of our own research on the biology and technological aspects of the cultivation of trout hybrids (tiger trout, splake etc.). Highlights of assisted reproduction for crossing of salmonids are presented. The data are illustrated with original photographs. Additional biochemical and cytogenetic studies on the determination of the isoenzyme spectrum and chromosome sets of tiger trout are proposed.
