REPRODUCTIVE HORMONES LEVEL IN BLOOD SERUM OF IMPORTED DAIRY HEIFERS
D. D. Dimitrov, N. Mehandzhiyski
Abstract: Adaptation of pregnant animals after import, in reproductive relation, goes into three physiological periods – pregnancy (last stage), parturition, and puerperium. Influence of all these periods in a complex with new environment lead to higher tension on organs and systems of the macro organism. This leads to increased level of stress/distress in imported animals.
The aim of this study was to examine the hormone levels in serum during puerperium in imported animals.
Results showed a few disturbances in examined period in the function of hypothalamus-hypophysis unit. The cortisol is significantly increased 9.68±2.08 ng/ml (P≤0.01), and the gonadotropin secretion is inhibited.
Conclusions: animals kept function of HP unit; estrogen secretion is disturbed; in 1st week postpartum cortisol is increased; cortisol can`t suppress the progesterone secretion.
Keywords: cortisol; estrogens; follicle stimulating hormone; hormones; luteinizing hormone; progesterone
