DYNAMICS IN DEVELOPMENT OF FAMILIES IN TROTTER BREED POPULATION OF HORSES IN BULGARIA. INFLUENCE OF MARES IMPORTED FROM RUSSIA

Abstract: The introduction of the Trotter breeds of horses in Bulgaria starts in the beginning of 50's of the past century. The formation of the breeding nucleus at this stage is based mostly on mares and stallions of Orlov and Russian trotter breeds imported from Russia. Total number of mares is 27, six of which become foundation mares and their families are presented with significant number of broodmares in the recent population. One of them, the mare Bayaderka is Orlov trotter, the other 5 — Grebyonka,
Izgnannitsa, Lielupe, Pagonia and Panika are Russian trotters. In a relation to exterior the foundation mares and their female descendants have met the requirements for the breed and have become a good foundation for development of the Bulgarian population of trotter horses.
